The Institute of Nursing Research
Welcome
Welcome to the website of the Institute of Nursing Research, which is located within the School of Nursing at the University of Ulster where 10% of all UK PhD nursing students are based. The Institute has a vibrant culture of research and scholarship with other thirty researchers and ten professors based on the Jordanstown, Coleraine and Magee campuses of the University.
Vision
Our vision is to be world-leading in research and development that enhances the knowledge, expertise and engaged scholarship of nursing, midwifery and public health research and to build on our success from the most recent RAE process in 2008, when nursing at the University of Ulster was ranked among the premier league of universities in the UK and in terms of 4* research we were within the top three universities. While all of our nursing research at the University of Ulster was deemed to be of international standard, 40% was classed as ‘world leading.’
First Annual Research Week
The Institute is delighted to have held its first ever 'research week' recently to profile and develop the Institute’s work. For the first time, our visiting professors from all over the world came together to give master classes, seminars and workshops, at the University’s Jordanstown campus. They focused on our main centre themes:
- Managing Chronic Illness
- Person-Centred Practice
- Maternal, Fetal and Infant Research
- Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
- Mental Health
- Educational and Professional Issues
Our distinguished visiting speakers include: Prof Mi Ja Kim, Prof Mike Clarke, Prof Domhnall MacAuley, Prof Debra Moser, Prof Ruth Northway, Prof Jan Dewing, Prof Angie Titchen, Dr Nicola Armstrong, Prof Val Wilson, Dr Janice Bailie, Prof Soo Downe and Prof Jo Rycroft-Malone.
Researchers from across the university and colleagues in health and social care services joined us in seminars, conferences and master classes alongside partners from across healthcare in sharing knowledge, expertise and networks. The week has been a resounding success and positively reviewed by all who participated, and so will become an annual part of the Institute calendar.
Thank you for visiting the Institute of Nursing Research website. Please feel free to call back and check our regular updates. Further information about our Research Week will be available in our newsletter.
